Tips on Designing the Perfect Living Room
Know these living room tips to make your design better:
Tip 1: Prioritize Comfortable and Conversational Layouts
Tip 2: Maintain Proper Furniture Spacing
Tip 3: Perfect the Visual Balance with Accessories
Tip 1: Prioritize Comfortable and Conversational Layouts
A well-designed living room promotes seamless conversations and interaction. Consider these layout principles:
- Maintain a comfortable seating radius of 2600–3000 mm (" 8'6"–9'10") to ensure an intimate yet spacious arrangement.
- Keep at least 600 mm (2’0”) between furniture pieces for easy movement.
- Position sofas and chairs so that they face each other rather than aligning with the TV. This will foster interaction and a welcoming ambience.
Tip 2: Maintain Proper Furniture Spacing
The right furniture placement enhances both aesthetics and functionality:
- Couch & Coffee Table Distance: Keep it at 450 mm (18") for easy access without feeling cramped.
- Wall & Furniture Clearance: Maintain a minimum of 910 mm (36”) to prevent overcrowding.
- Living Room Chairs: Space them 1070 mm (42”) apart for comfortable movement while maintaining cohesion.
Type 3: Perfect the Visual Balance with Accessories
Elements like curtains, artwork, and rugs define the personality of your living room:
- Curtain Placement: Install rods 75-150 mm (3”-6”) beyond the window frame for a grander look.
- Artwork Positioning: Hang at 1450 mm (57”) from the floor to the center for an optimal viewing height.
- Rug Sizing: Leave 600 mm (24”) of space between the rug and walls to frame the room elegantly.
