"Most homeowners install shower niches at the wrong height and depth, leading to water damage and structural issues. Getting these three dimensions right will save you from costly repairs"

How to Design the Perfect Shower Niche

🚿 Mistake 1: Installing at the Wrong Height

📏 Mistake 2: Getting the Depth Wrong

💧 Mistake 3: Ignoring the Slope Requirements

🚿 Mistake 1: Installing at the Wrong Height

The biggest mistake homeowners make is placing their shower niche too high or too low. Install your niche between 120-140 cm (47-55 inches) from the floor – this is the sweet spot where you can easily grab your shampoo without awkwardly reaching overhead or bending down.

Most people mount them near the showerhead, which looks logical but creates a frustrating daily experience.

If you're planning a bathroom renovation, this detail is covered extensively in The ebook, where we break down every measurement that matters for functional bathroom spaces.

📏 Mistake 2: Getting the Depth Wrong

Here's where structural problems begin: go 8-10 cm (3-4 inches) deep, and not a centimeter more.

This depth perfectly accommodates standard shampoo bottles and body wash containers while keeping your wall structure intact.

Going deeper than 10 cm can compromise waterproofing integrity and even weaken load-bearing walls.

💧 Mistake 3: Ignoring the Slope Requirements

This is the silent killer of shower niches – improper slope angles.

For steam showers, your niche top needs a 1:6 slope ratio to prevent condensation from dripping onto your products and creating that gross, slimy buildup.

The base requires a gentler 1:8 slope to ensure water drains properly instead of pooling around your bottles. Without these precise angles, you're inviting mold growth and water staining within months.
