🍽️ Rule #1: Maintain 90cm (3 ft) behind every chair
Most homeowners think a dining room feels tight because the table is big — but in truth, it’s because people can’t move around seated guests comfortably.
Always leave 90cm (around 3 ft) of space between the back of the chair and the wall or furniture. It instantly makes the room feel open, breathable, and functional.
🪑 Rule #2: Give 60cm (2 ft) space per person on the table
When everyone’s elbows clash during dinner, it’s not the table’s fault — it’s the lack of personal comfort space.
Allow 60cm (24 inches) per diner for an ideal dining experience. This helps even small families use compact tables without feeling cramped.
🕯️ Rule #3: Follow the 75cm (30 inches) rug and chandelier rule
Your dining rug should extend 75cm (30 inches) beyond the table edge on all sides — this keeps chairs stable and prevents awkward edge folds.
And your chandelier? Keep it 75cm (30 inches) above the tabletop for perfect proportion and lighting spread.
